Mong Tay Island
What’s at Mong Tay Island ?
Mong Tay Island (Hon Mong Tay, also called Fingernail Island) is a small island in the An Thoi archipelago, about 14 km south of An Thoi port in southern Phu Quoc. Travelers call it the “Maldives of Vietnam,” and one look at the soft white sand and clear turquoise water explains why. It feels a world away from the busy streets of Duong Dong.
The sea is the star here. It’s calm and shallow, which makes Mong Tay Island one of the easiest places on Phu Quoc to try snorkeling for the first time. With a life jacket and a guide, even nervous swimmers can float above the coral and watch small fish drift by. Between swims, you can try paddleboarding, go kayaking with the kids, or simply stretch out on the sand. If your boat stays until late afternoon, the sunset turns the whole beach into a photo backdrop, and a beachside BBQ is the perfect finish: grilled sea urchin, steamed squid and herring salad are local favorites.
Mong Tay Island is reachable by boat only. From Duong Dong, it’s about a 30 to 40 minute drive to An Thoi port, where speedboats and wooden boats leave for the island. Most visitors join a 3-island or snorkeling tour that includes hotel pickup, lunch and gear. The dry season, from November to April, is the best time to go. To reach the harbor without stress, book a Car Rental in Phu Quoc. On another day, add the Vinpearl Safari in the north of the island for a complete Phu Quoc trip. Pack reef-safe sunscreen, water shoes, a waterproof phone case and some cash, then book your Mong Tay Island tour with us.
